Notes Odebolt Chronicle - June 18, 1903
George Landgraf died last Wednesday, June 10, at 5PM at his home, four miles east of Odebolt. His death resulted from a fall from his wagon while returning from Odebolt Monday, June 8. The funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o clock, being conducted by Rev Gustavo Weinhold of St. Martin s church and the interment was in the Catholic cemetery south of town. The funeral was one of the most generally attended ever held in this vicinity
Mr Landgraf was born near Princeton, Illinois. December 22, 1860. He subsequently moved with his parents to Sandy Hill and later to Mendota and came to Iowa in 1881. He was married January 21, 1886, to Miss Elizabeth Kaiser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kaiser of Levey township, and has since followed the occupation of farming, for several years occupying one of Henry Reinhurt's farms and later moving to the W. A. Helsell farm in Clinton township. He is survived by his widow and seven children- William aged 16, Josephine 15, Albert 13, Katharine 11, Emma 9, Amelia 6, and John 4 year-, also his mother Mrs. Eva Landgraf of Mendota, Illinois, two brothers, John of Mendota and Michael of this place and three sisters--Mrs. Lizzie Hess of Polo, Illinois; Mrs. Josephine Colanczik of Princeton, Illinois; and Mrs. Katharine Bosdorf of Tampico, Illinois. All were present at the funeral except Mrs . Bosdorf. Mr. Landgraf was a good citizen, generally esteemed by his neighbors and acquaintances in the community in which he lived The sorrowing widow and children have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
- Certain idle-tongued persons have been circulating the report that the late George Landgraf was intoxicated when he fell from his wagon and received injuries which caused his death. Mr. Nathan Levey, an honorable and truthful citizen of Odebolt, met Mr. Landgraf on the road only five minutes before the accident occurred and talked with him (or a few minutes. He says that Mr. Landgraf was not intoxicated and that he showed. no evidence of having imbibed of liquor, Now let those common slanderers give the dead and his widow and orphans a rest.
