Notes - George Paul was born at Portsmouth, England, July 24, 1821. He was married to Miss Betsy Rundell, June 14, 1845. They resided in Portsmouth for eight years after their marriage. In 1853, they came to America and made their home in Platteville. They lived in Mitchell Hollow for 36 years and moved into the city in the fall of 1893. Four children were born to them: William C., of Odebolt, Iowa; James H. died when four years old; Sarah R now Mrs. Charles E. Bonson; and James H. of Platteville. His beloved wife went home to be with Christ in May 1897. Brother Paul never recovered from his bereavement, but often expressed a desire to depart this life and meet her in the Celestial City. He was a lifelong Christian, as was his beloved wife. He was one of the pioneers of the Primitive Methodist Church of Platteville, having been a member here 46 years. He has filled many of the offices in the church, as S.S, Supt., teacher, class leader, Steward, Trustee. etc. Brother Paul went to visit his son, William C., at Odebolt, Iowa, December 1, 1898. He was taken sick and came home in the beginning of May, 1899. He had been failing in health for the last two years and the last three months of his life, his health rapidly failed and June 14, 1899 at 4 P.M., the anniversary of his wedding day, his desire to be with his dear partner in the better world was realized. He fell asleep in Jesus, aged 77 years, 10 months and 21 days. There survive him one sister in Ohio, Wm. C. of Odebolt, Sarah R, and James H. of Platteville.
