    • Mrs. Julia Scanlan, 84, died at the Nursing Home in Schaller Monday morning, February 22. She had not been well for the past five years and lived most of the time with her son and daughter-inlaw, Mr. and Mrs. James Scanlan. Her condition became worse ten days before her death and she was taken to the Nursing Home in Schaller for care. Funeral services were held at St. Martin's church in Odebolt at 9:30 a.m. today, February 25, with the Rev. Father Charles Ernst officiating. Burial was in St. Martin's cemetery with Joe W.' Bengford, J. J. Dinges, Herbert Tiefenthaler, Ray EngeJ, Earl ' Zcmmermann and Frank Hink the attendants. JuHa Loretta Scanlan was born at Ladd, Illinois March 22, 1875, the daughter of Cornelius and Ellen Hurley. She grew to womanhood there and in 1900 was married to Phillip Scanlan. In 1913 they moved to a farm at Howard, South Dakota. They made their home on the farm until her husband's death in 1934.^ Since that time she has made her home with her children. She is survived by seven children, Mary (Mrs. Ed.) Bengasser of Sioux Falls, S. D.; James of Odebolt; Elmer of Corvallis, Oregon; Alice (Mrs. John) Nevicosi of BeJoit, Wis., Eileen (Mrs. John) Mixner .of Arlington, Virginia; Francis of McMinville, Oregon; and. Ethel (Mrs. Tom) McKercher of Lakewood, Calif. Twenty-six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive.
